Gudbrandsjuvet

 

Gudbrandsjuvet is a tourist attraction along trunk road 63. It is an easily accessible and dramatic gorge with steep cliffs, large potholes and a roaring river in a spectacular landscape. Each year, roughly 500,000 tourists pass through Gudbrandsjuvet during a few hectic summer weeks. Between 70% and 80% of these stop at Gudbrandsjuvet.

Now, plans for a considerable Upgrade of Gudbrandsjuvet as a natural tourist attraction are under way. New paths will be built that are based on the principle of accessibility for all. Services buildings with space for public lavatories, a cafe and market places will be built. The capacity is improved by building more parking Spaces, pavements and observation points.

The plans have been developed by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's Tourist Route Project in close collaboration with local businesses, landowners, Norddal municipality and More and Romsdal county. The plans are a continuance of the potentiality study developed by Jensen & Skodvin Arkitektkontor AS in 2004.
Construction work started in the spring of 2006, and completion of the first construction phase is expected in the spring of 2008.
